How it all started? (I love DIYs)

Hey, I’m Mavi! Welcome to my little corner of the sweet world.

Self-taught, caffeinated and a free snack!

So, I did what any reasonable, slightly chaotic person would do: I turned to the internet. I taught myself everything from scratch—from mastering buttercream to making my own homemade marshmallow fondant (which, full disclosure, my sons treated as a free snack). Pretty soon, friends noticed my work. Then friends of friends noticed. Before I knew it, people were actually paying me to make their cakes, cupcakes, and cookies! For years, I did this out of my home kitchen while working at the hospital, raising my boys, and running on purely caffeinated vibes.

The Meaning Behind the Name

My kids kept nagging me: "Mom, when are you finally opening a real cake shop?!" When naming my businesses, I made sure my boys were right there in the title. My previous print business, Zed Printz, was named after my younger son, Zedrik. So when it came to the bakeshop, Life’z-A-Cake was born—a nod to my crazy life journey, with that special "Z" swapped in for my older son, Zach.

Embracing the Chaos and my Creative Brain

Was it smooth sailing? Ha, absolutely not. The last few years have been a full-on roller coaster. Between navigating a hard separation in 2025, working my hospital job, raising two teenage boys, and pampering a horribly spoiled dog—it’s been a lot. Starting my healing journey in 2023 forced me to slow down, learn to truly love myself, and embrace my mental health journey. I even learned to love my ADHD creative brain—which, turns out, is my secret weapon for hyper-focusing on every tiny cake detail!

If you told me 14 years ago when we first moved to Canada that I’d be running a real-deal bakeshop, I probably would’ve laughed in your face. It actually all started because I wanted cute, over-the-top custom cakes for my two boys, but looking at local bakery prices back then? Oof. My bank account said no, but my stubbornness said, "Girl, you can DIY this."
